Overview

Venting or leaking fluorocarbon refrigerants to the atmosphere damages the environment.
This has prompted tighter legislation regarding the containment of refrigerant and the illegal release of refrigerant to the atmosphere.

BOC Recovery Service Offer

BOC operate a cradle to grave refrigerants business and has a fully-licensed and compliant recovery and reclaim operation second to none in the UK, with many operational advantages.

BOC offer a recovery service to our customers. Here we can provide empty cylinders for customers to empty their refrigeration systems into, whilst they carry out mechanical maintenance. BOC can offer two different types of packages:

  • Recovery Cylinders: When the refrigerant from a system is no longer required and needs to be recovered or disposed of.
  • Decant Cylinders: When the customer wishes to re-use the refrigerant (usually when he has carried out mechanical maintenance on the refrigeration unit).

Overfilled Cylinders

Customers must NOT overfill recovery & decant cylinders due to safety considerations. Scales should be used by engineers who are filling recovery and decant packages to avoid this. BOC may make a handling charge plus the costs of labour and materials associated with making the packages safe. In addition, incineration costs may apply.

A guide to the BOC hazardous waste returns form

BOC is licensed under The Hazardous Waste (England and Wales) Regulations, 2005 to keep, treat and dispose of controlled waste from its processing site at Immingham, near Grimsby. With that licence come’s the requirement to regularly report to customers exactly how waste collected from them has been dealt with - whether recycled, stored or disposed of via incineration.

A guide has been produced that provides a step-by-step explanation of the returns form. It explains the key details of the hazardous waste returns form, including the following:

  • Customer premises code. Any customer producing over 200kg per annum of hazardous waste will need a specific premises code which recognizes them as a producer of hazardous waste. The code is provided by the Environment Agency and needs to be renewed annually
  • SIC code (standard industry classification) - this details the industry from which the hazardous waste has been produced;
  • Consignee details. This is the person or organisation to whom waste is transferred. The hazardous waste returns form carries the name, post code and unique hazardous waste identification for the consignee
  • Hazard code. All hazardous waste collected by BOC is categorized to one of fourteen hazard codes, four of which are specific to refrigerant waste
