Environment and Energy Surcharge

The manufacture of industrial gases is highly energy intensive. Very large quantities of electricity are required to run air separation plants that produce oxygen, nitrogen and argon. Carbon dioxide and hydrogen are both produced from natural gas. Propane is produced by refining crude oil.

BOC purchases energy from the wholesale market. During 2008 wholesale energy prices have increased to unprecedented levels.

Electricity Vs Oil

BOC environment and energy surcharge for industrial cylinder gases effective 1 October 2008 are:

All gases except propane

Standard cylinders - £0.47 per cylinder and pro rata for manifolded packs
Small cylinders - £0.39 per cylinder

Propane

The environment and energy surcharge on propane is reviewed monthly in line with movements in the Argus North Sea Index. Monthly Propane Surcharge

The following leaflets cover the impact of rising global energy prices on the manufacture and distribution of industrial gases and what BOC is doing to minimise these effects
