Cutting Copper and Alloys
Copper and copper alloys frequently need to be cut to size or shape and the processes most commonly used are plasma and mechanical cutting or shearing. It is the high thermal conductivity of the material that gives the greatest problems in plasma cutting as the process needs to create a keyhole through the material that can then be used to blow away the excess. Mechanical cutting can be difficult because of the high level of ductility the metal exhibits, this leads to material being pulled through the cut often leaving a ridge at the cut edge. |
