This section is broken down into the three main product categories, listed above. Gases cover a wide range of products. Atmospheric gases such as argon and nitrogen are often used for their inert properties and oxygen is used to aid combustion. Fuel gases such as acetylene, hydrogen and propane, are used for a wide range of flame processes. Shielding gases are the mixtures specially developed for arc welding and cutting applications including Argoshield, Alushield, Stainshield and other argon rich mixtures. There are a wide range of storage methods that can be used for gases, which method is used is often dependent on the gas and the amount of product required. Welding consumables are the MIG, submerged arc, flux and metal cored wires; MMA electrodes; TIG, gas welding and brazing rods and fluxes used in conjunction with all the main welding processes. Each types of consumable is also supplied in a range of materials, sizes and delivery forms. Practical problems often arise from the incorrect storage of these products and in some instances the consumable may have to undergo some form of treatment before they are used. Equipment for all the main welding and cutting processes varies in some way. In some processes there are extra items such as wire feed systems required and even these may vary dependent on the type of consumable used. In arc welding equipment, different types of power source are available with differing operating characteristics and also a wide range of current carrying capacities. Fuel gas equipment includes regulators, hoses and flash back arrestors which are process universal. While other items such as torches and nozzles vary by process.
