Post Weld Heat Treatment

Post Weld Heat Treatment refers to a set of heat treatments that are sometimes applied to a structure after it has been welded.

These PWHTs can either be simple, relatively low temperature treatments to relieve the stresses locked into the structure from the welding cycle, or they can be complicated higher temperature treatments, chosen to restore the mechanical properties of the material after they have been adversely affected by the thermal cycle associated with welding.
